Fajr Prayer
The fajr prayer time starts at imsak and ends at sunrise. To leave time for wudu, the sunnah and the fard prayer, AuraSleep calculates two times:
- Latest wake-up time = sunrise − 20 minutes
- Suggested time = latest wake-up time − 30 minutes
For example, on a morning when the sun rises at 07:14, your latest wake-up time is 06:54 and the suggested time is 06:24. You choose Suggested, Latest or Custom. If your own time falls after the prayer time, the app shows a gentle note; it never blocks the alarm.
Diyanet does not recommend how many minutes before sunrise to wake. These 20 and 30 minute margins are our product decision; you can always set the alarm time yourself.
Tahajjud
Tahajjud is a voluntary night prayer performed after sleeping for a while following isha. Its time lasts until imsak. AuraSleep counts the night from isha to imsak and finds the start of the last third like this:
Last third = imsak − (imsak − isha) / 3
On a night with isha at 20:28 and imsak at 05:47, the night lasts 9 hours 19 minutes; a third is 3 hours 6 minutes, so the last third starts at 02:41. You can choose the pre-dawn (seher) time, imsak − 45 minutes, or your own time instead.
We explain the calculation in detail in the tahajjud time guide.
Suhoor In Ramadan
Three days before Ramadan, AuraSleep asks whether you want to turn on the suhoor alarm. If you do, it rings 50 minutes before imsak every night; you can choose 30, 45, 50 or 60 minutes or set your own time. You can also turn on an iftar reminder.
Eating and drinking end at imsak. We explain why 50 minutes is the default in the suhoor guide.
How Are Prayer Times Calculated?
The app calculates prayer times on your phone with the method of Türkiye’s Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet): imsak is when the sun is 18° below the horizon and isha when it is 17° below. A 7-minute precaution (temkin) is applied to sunrise. The calculation works offline.
Because times are calculated per city, they may differ by a few minutes from the call to prayer where you are. The app credits Diyanet as the source.
The phase of the moon does not set prayer times; they follow the position of the sun. The moon sets the Hijri calendar: Ramadan, the holy nights and the Eids.

A Backup Alarm For Important Wake-Ups
The alarm may not ring if your phone is off, silenced, out of battery or if the operating system stops the app. For wake-ups you do not want to miss, we recommend setting a backup alarm.
